Young Adult ages 13 and up -- This is probs my fave YA book of the year. Felipe is fat and awkward and gay. He doesn't know how to deal with the bullies at school and he doesn't know how to deal with his crush on his neighbor. But when said neighbor ends up having to stay with him and his mom over a 2 week vacation period when his parents go out of town, everything changes!! I loved Felipe's voice and how he grows confidence in himself. He's also really freakin funny. Such a wonderful book. --Sara

Young Adult -- Ages 13 and up -- This is one of my favorite YA books of all time--it brims with love, anger, fierceness, vulnerability, and hope. Shirin is a Muslim American teen in New York City directly following the 9/11 attacks. Her story exposes the blatant racism Muslim Americans faced and still face, along with the more subtle micro-aggressions that might be only be seen through her eyes. When she falls for a white boy she has to weigh her desire to protect herself from outside hate or live her life unguarded. It's beautiful, breathtaking, and so much more. -- Casey
