"The Book Doctors", Arielle Eckstut and David Henry Sterry, authors of The Essential Guide to Getting Your Book Published, will be making a house call in San Francisco at Rockit Room in conjunction with Green Apple Books on July 24 at 1pm. This event is an opportunity for you to pitch your book at their acclaimed event, Pitchapalooza, which was recently featured in The New York Times. Pitchapalooza is like American Idol for books--writers get one minute to pitch their book ideas to an all-star panel of publishing experts. The winner receives an introduction to an appropriate agent or publisher for his/her book. Guests will also get a free publishing consultation worth $100 with purchase of The Essential Guide to Getting Your Book Published, making this event an opportunity not to miss.
The expert pannel includes Elise Cannon, VP Director of Field Sales at Publisher's Group West, a distributor based in Berkeley. She has worked at PGW to market and sell independently-published books for 19 years, including titles from presses like Grove/Atlantic Monthly, New World Library, Tin House Books, Milkweed, Counterpoint, Soft Skull Press, and McSweeney's. She also oversees indie bookstore sales for Perseus Books Group. Elise also worked at Green Apple in 1987-1988 and kept a damn tidy greeting card section.
Arielle Eckstut has been a literary agent for 18 years and is the author of seven books. David Henry Sterry is the best-selling author of 12 books, on a wide variety of subject including memoir, sports, YA fiction and reference. Together, they’ve helped countless talented amateur writers become published authors. They’ve appeared everywhere from NPR to USA Today, and have taught publishing workshops everywhere from the Miami Book Fair to Stanford University. Find more at www.thebookdoctors.com.
