We are thrilled to be hosting Jaimy Gordon for a reading just months after her novel, Lord of Misrule, won the National Book Award for fiction. Lord of Misrule is hardly Gordon's debut novel (she's been writing and publishing since 1973, remaining relatively obscure compared to her current award-winning success), but its surprise victory in 2010 uncannily mirrors the novel's title character, the (literally) dark horse who runs the final lap in this novel about the little-known underbelly of the racetrack. Check out the New York Times' glowing review of Gordon's novel for more information about not only the book itself, but the significance of its win.
Gordon will be joining us at Green Apple on the evening of Monday, January 24th at 7 PM for a reading, signing, and meet-and-greet that is not to be missed. Pick up your copy of Lord of Misrule here, and we'll see you there.
"Lord of Misrule" is a darkly realistic novel about a young woman living through a year of horse racing at a half-mile track in West Virginia, while everyone's best laid schemes keep going brutally wrong.
