Join Green Apple Books on Wednesday, September 11th at 7:00pm in our Granny Smith Room as we welcome local author Carl Hayes reading from his memoir, Loaded Stories: Memories and Tales of Fathers, 1970s California, and Other Complications. It’s a good thing children are resilient. San Francisco author Carl Hayes tours his California childhood and attempts to understand the secret histories of his two fathers, the first shot and killed while hitchhiking in Tennessee, the second a hard-partying outlaw immersed in the general mayhem of post-Manson Family Los Angeles. Lurching from psychedelic gun-packed nightmares to mountain-top “Partridge Family” harmonies, a unique family history shaped by the raucous ’70s is explored in this compelling personal essay.
Carl Hayes was born in Dothan, Alabama, in 1971 and moved to California when he was three, where he grew up mostly in the Big Bear Lake area in Southern California. He is also the author of "The New and Improving Thomas: A Self-Help Novel." He lives in San Francisco.
