On Monday, July 25th at 7PM, Green Apple will be hosting a night of poetry with readings from two outstanding voices in American poetry, Troy Jollimore and Anthony Carelli.

Troy Jollimore's newest collection, At Lake Scugog is an eagerly awaited collection of new poems from the author of Tom Thomson in Purgatory, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award and was hailed by the New York Times as a "snappy, entertaining book." A triumphant follow-up to that acclaimed debut, At Lake Scugog demonstrates why the San Francisco Chronicle has called Troy Jollimore "a new and exciting voice in American poetry."

Anthony Carelli's poems have appeared in various magazines, including AGNI, Columbia, and the New Yorker. His first book of poems, Carnations, was published in spring of 2011 as part of the Princeton University Press series of contemporary poets. Often taking titles from a biblical vocabulary, Carnations reminds us that unremarkable places and events can, in a blink, be new.

Green Apple Books is pleased to host Brian Krans for a reading from his new novel, Freeze Tag on the Highway, a dizzying trip through the final week of a summer camp filled with sex, drugs, and underground Betta fish fighting. The novel takes place at Camp Wazeecha, a therapeutic, confidence-boosting camp for teens with developmental disorders, low self-esteem, and authority issues. But while the brochure promises positive results, the camp’s director sedates himself with the kids' medication while leaving them to play on the jungle gyms of their chemical imbalances. When most of the staff quits in protest, Jake is forced to watch a few of the kids he despises more than the camp itself. Krans ruthlessly intertwines images of picturesque summers and the chaos of being a teenager in this gripping and darkly funny novel. Check out his reading in the Granny Smith Room on Wednesday, September 14th at 7 PM to hear this twisted tale come to life.

Note: Despite our website's claims otherwise, Freeze Tag on the Highway is available on our shelves. Call the store to reserve or order your copy.
